Transportation

The impact that transport and mobility of people and goods have on the quality of life has been widely demonstrated by the efforts that are being put in place worldwide to optimize and fluidizing flows and to reduce the effects of traffic on the environment.

In this vision, the applications of transport are earning an increasingly significant space in support to the decisions on planning and land management and the related services are now increasingly required in programming the transformation processes of urban and suburban areas of intervention.

In this particular area i&i, thanks to the considerable preparation of its staff, the continual professional development and the use of modern information technologies, proposes itself as leader company able to offer to public and private companies integrated services of the highest level.

In particular, the i&i has extremely significant experience in:

Transport planning:

Preparation of studies or plans to the planning and management of infrastructure projects to be implemented over a reference territory for the optimization of traffic flows for the modal shift, to increase road safety and to contain environmental impact. Depending on the local level of reference, these are:

Territorial level

Regional

Regional Transport Plans

Provincial

Basin plans for public transport

Suburban roads Plans

Urban

Traffic Impact Analysis:

Preparation of studies, through static and/or dynamic simulation tools of transport networks models, for reviewing the impact of mobility on the system related to the execution of infrastructure of following type:

  • Punctual, such as large shopping centres, industrial facilities or production, new urban sectors, airports, stations, etc.;
  • Linear, such as new roads and highways, new systems of local public transport, new sea and air connections, etc.

Thanks to these studies, projects can be accompanied by impact assessments on the Status Quo scenario, required by applicable law, and it could be possible to assess a priori, and therefore without unnecessary economic expenditures, the validity (and hence the feasibility) of construction projects, both public and private , of considerable size, with particular reference to their effects induced on mobility and transport system in which they are inserted.

Statistical Investigations for travel demand analysis:

organization and execution of research campaigns, direct or indirect, on the user for the reconstruction, on a statistical basis, of habits and ways of moving for people and goods. Through the elaboration of data, collected by specially trained staff, it comes to:

  • Construction of Origin / Destination matrices for the different transport modes;
  • Calibration of models for modal shift used to evaluate the propensity to modal change when offer varies;
  • Customer’s satisfaction analysis.

In drafting of commissioned studies i&i uses the most innovative computer technologies in the market; in particular, it has regular licenses of the two families of software for the simulation of transport systems more widely spread in the world, the PTV Vision (VISUM and VISSIM) and Citilabs (CUBE Voyager, analysts and GIS).
